Bukit Penulisan Temple is also known as Pura Tegeh Koripan that was built on the summit of Penulisan hill. It is located at Sukawana village, Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali. It is about 2,5 hours drive by car or 73 kilometer from Ngurah Rai International Airport to reach it. It is one of the highest temple in Bali set in the plateau area surrounded by fresh and cool atmosphere. It is an ancient temple referred to 9 century inscriptions.
Pucak Penulisan Temple is situated at 1745 meters above the sea level and about 3 km from Kintamani, one of the famous tourist destinations in Bali or 30 km from the capital town of Bangli regency. The Balinese manuscripts at this temple is telling that Bukit Penulisan is also called Bukit Tunggal because of its location is separated from the chain of mountains. Bukit Penulisan Temple or Tegeh Koripan Temple commonly called Pura Pucak Penulisan because it is located at the peak of Penulisan hill.
Bukit Penulisan Temple is one of the Hindu temples made in megalithic era. It is estimated begun to construct in the year 300 AD (the Bronze Age) and followed in the 10th century until the end of the Majapahit Kingdom in 1343 AD. The unique of this temple are the Bale building, the ancient stone statues and Lingga from the 11th-13th Centuries. One of the statues is Queen Mahendratta. This Temple is a place for worship of Lord Shiva which is the manifestation of Almighty God. This temple has a high historical value and some of the interesting points that makes Pura Puncak Penulisan different from other temples. Temple building has two concepts where the first concept drawn from pre-history which could be seen clearly, especially from a storied building structure. The Second concept is about the construction of this temple. Temple Construction reach 7 levels heights with the first and second levels connected by stairs. At the 3rd level there is Pura Dana and Pura Taman Dana, at the 4th level there is Pura Ratu Panyarikan until 6 level to have Pura Ratu Dahatua. The 7th level is the highest place where we can meet Pelinggih (Main temple building), Pengaruman building, Piyasan building and Gedong building as a place to keep ancient objects.
